July Male Athlete Spotlight- Chris French

When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started?Aug 2014, it was next door to title boxing and my wife was tired of watching me get punched in the face. What is your favorite/least favorite WOD?My favorite workout would be Fran or something with a heavy barbell. My most disliked workout would be anything with running! What is your favorite/least favorite movement? My favorite movement would be squatting or heavy cleans because #nothighgap. My least favorite movement would be anything overhead - snatches or jerks!

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.)

I've lived in Olathe my whole life until about 2 months ago when I decided to venture out and move to Stilwell. I married my high school sweetheart and we just celebrated our 12 year anniversary. I have always enjoyed doing anything active: soccer, mma and now Crossfit. I have 2 boys: an 18 month old and 11 years old - they are the BEST four legged kids you could ever have!

What was your workout routine before CrossFit?After high school I did the global gym thing until my wife asked me to go to a boxing class, because she was scared to do it by herself. From there I started training MMA (boxing, kick boxing, JiuJitsu, wrestling) and ended my amateur career with an 8-2 record. What did you think after your first CrossFit workout?

I thought my first Crossfit workout was really tough and intense. My favorite part was no-one was trying to hit me!

What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals?

My goal was to learn and experience different forms of fitness and be in the best shape possible without having to cut weight. I have learned so much about health and fitness, but I'm constantly wanting to learn more.

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?

Most definitely! The friendships and lifestyle it has created impacts my daily decisions.

Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?

I have my own highs of hitting large PR's and doing well in competitions, but what gives me the most satisfaction is watching other people PR or reach their long time goals.

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit 913?

Consistency is more important than being perfect. If the plan doesn't work, change the plan - NOT THE GOAL!

Something you might not know about me is?I like foo-foo drinks - the sweeter the better!
