When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started?I started CrossFit in June 2013. My daughter was interested in joining PSP (PSP and CrossFit 913 were sharing a facility at the time) so my wife asked me to go check out the program for her. Instead, I signed myself up for CrossFit.What is your favorite/least favorite WOD?My favorite WOD is CINDY (I can accomplish this without too much trouble). My least favorite WOD is FRAN (not crazy about Thusters).What is your favorite/least favorite movement?My favorite movement is Double Unders (JK). Actually it’s Kipping pull-ups. Anyone who knows me knows my least favorite movement is DU.Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.) I am originally from the Chicago area. I went to college in Salina, KS (Marymount College) where I met my wife Mari. We have 4 children (Corey, Kellye, Courtney and Kylee). I work for Herff Jones Printing Company. The MacCallums are huge KSU fans (season football … not basketball…ticket holders), Green Bay Packer Fans and Chicago White Sox fans.
What was your workout routine before CrossFit?I was a member of 24 Hour Fitness where I watched TV while I worked out (basically didn’t get much done).What did you think after your first CrossFit workout?So this is what it’s like to really work out? I really liked having a coach to motivate me.I thought CrossFit was so great I talked my son Corey into joining … he loved it and currently trains at a CrossFit Strong in Dallas.What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals?My goals were to get into a routine (5x/wk) to become fit, feel better and have better endurance. YES – goals are an ongoing accomplishment.Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?Definitely have more energy…(see Janelle’s Feb. response)Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?Completing my first CrossFit Open in 2014. Really enjoyed working out with my son Corey.
What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit 913?If I can do this, anyone can. Work at your own pace. Be patient with your progress. Ask questions if you don’t understand. Don’t compare yourself to others. Stay with it. Something you might not know about me is?I’m in the Herff Jones Hall of Fame (> $10,000,000 in sales). I’m a proud Green Bay Packers stockholder. I’m going to be a Grandpa in less than a month!
