November Male Athlete Spotlight - Brandon Harding

When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started?I started about four years ago. I went with a friend back home over Christmas and liked the difficulty and the social aspect. What is your favorite/least favorite WOD? Favorite- Don’t really have a favorite but most EMOMs, I like the variety.Least favorite- any workout with burpees over the erg.What is your favorite/least favorite movement?Favorite- Deadlifts .Least favorite- I really hate burpees over the erg.

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.)Grew up in Utah, oldest of four. Moved here about six years ago for work. Im a senior buyer at the Buckle. I help pick the mens product assortment and work with the west coast and action sports brands to develop and design exclusive product for our stores. Not a big sports guys- way too clumsy for that and friends will verify it. Love to travel, be outside- especially by water, cook and try different food. What was your workout routine before CrossFit?I worked out most days in a regular chain gym and had a trainer twice a week. But have always been pretty active. Growing up in Utah we did a lot of outdoor stuff like mountain biking and hiking.What did you think after your first CrossFit workout?I remember being really sweaty and worried about how sore I would be.What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals?I didn’t really come in with super specific goals. I more or less wanted to learn the movements and see how it went. As ive gotten more confident, the goals to learn how to do more difficult movements or increase weight on certain lifts has become a focus. In general, i always want to get bigger and leaner and have had both at different times. Seems like those goals are more of a moving target.

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?The biggest impact has been the people and friendships ive made through the gym.Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?I Competed in the summer gain comp last year and won. That was pretty cool and definitely unexpectedWhat advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit 913?Challenge yourself within reason- lighter weight isnt always a bad thing. Trust the coaches and the cues they are giving. Something you might not know about me is?Probably most of this because im overall a pretty shy person
