When did you start CrossFitting? Who/what got you started?I started CrossFit three years ago. My Fiancé, Jason got me into it. I thought he was pretty cute and he was really into it, so I thought why not. After the pain it ensued, I wasn’t sure he was worth it anymore. HAHA…But… for some unknown reason, I stuck with it even after Jason graduated and moved to KC.What is your favorite/least favorite WOD?Least favorite is “Karen” what is worst than doing 150 Wallballs- you could argue that 160 wallballs would be worse and you would be right also.Favorite is “Cindy” or “Diane”What is your favorite/least favorite movement?Least favorite movements… how much time do you have… DUs (whip yourself until you get really pissed off)…Wallballs, Thrusters… full list will be posted elsewhere.Favorite movements- Pull-ups, Handstand Push-ups, Deadlifts, and handstand walks (even though you dislocated my shoulder, I still love you). Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.)My family has always been really active. We have some horrible traditions of morning family runs and bike rides. Every vacation would consist of hiking in some aspect. We went to Yosemite, Yellowstone, Bryson, Badlands, and many others. At the time, I just wanted to be like normal kids and go to Disney World. My dad would always say “Hunn kids chew nails while other kids munch on cotton candy.” I don’t know what that means, but one day… I will wake up my kids at the buttcrack of dawn for a family run.
What was your workout routine before CrossFit?I would go to the gym with a plan to run three miles. Run one mile. Stop at McDonalds on the way home as a reward for my hard work. What did you think after your first CrossFit workout? My first workout was “Fran”. I was thinking… Wow that 20lb bar was really heavy, and was just glad I didn’t barf because I wanted to the entire time. What were your goals when joining CrossFit? Have you achieved any of those goals? My goal was just to keep going. Nobody thought I would stay with it; let alone learn to love it. I have come a long way from the girl who could barely raise the bar above her head.
Has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?Yes, I can now get all the groceries in the house in one trip.Do you have any other special memories/ achievements during your time here?Special memories are made here everyday. We are all constantly getting better. I love hitting a PR or mastering a movement, but I get as much joy from seeing others achieve their goals also. What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit 913?Sidestep stairs or avoid stairs at all costs. If you leg gives out when walking, play it off like you tripped on something. If you can’t bend your arms for three weeks, I wouldn’t say it was normal but it definitely happens. You will always be sore… but gainz.Something you might not know about me is?I wouldn’t be as happy as I am in Kansas City without our 913 family. Most of friends I have I met here. We work hard and play hard. I’m thankful for every one of you. I look forward to coming everyday. Thanks for putting up with me and my sass.
